Artist view
The Artist view is where you can browse your tracks categorized by artist while showing the artist picture as a thumbnail and useful information about each artist.
Using the Artist view
Show the Artist view using any of the methods below:
- Click View > Views > Artists from the main menu.
- Press F9 on your keyboard.
To view all tracks from a specific artist, click on the thumbnail of the artist, and all tracks produced by that artist show in the Track List.
Sections
The Artist Filter
The artists in the Artist view can be filtered, allowing only artist that meet certain criteria to be shown. Click here to read about the Artist Filter.
Information for artist entries
Each entry in the Artist view shows information about the artist as follows:
- Artist/Group Name
Shown first
- Home Country
Shown second
- Born/Formed Year
Only visible when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more
- Died/Disbanded Year
Only visible when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more
- Number of tracks
Only visible when using 96*96 pixels thumbnail size or more
- Sort Order
Only visible when using 96*96 pixels thumbnail size
- Artist Home Page
Only visible when using 128*128 pixels thumbnail size
- Artist/Group Icon
An icon which indicates if the artist is an artist or a group
- Artist Rating
Shown as star icons with a numeric representation of 0.5 to 5 (including half stars). This rating is calculated from the rating of the tracks each artist has produced. Artist rating will only be shown when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more.
The selection checkbox
To the left of each artist entry is a checkbox where you can manually select multiple artists. You can also use the Select menu on the Artist view toolbar or from the context menu to select multiple artists. The following tasks can be performed on multiple artists at the same time:
- Remove pictures
- Download artist information and pictures
- Enqueue and Play entries from the selected artists
The filtering toolbar
Above the thumbnail view are some controls that handle filtering of artists.
The filters are divided into two sections:
- Pictures filter, containing the following buttons:
- Show artists with pictures
- Show artists without pictures
- Biography filter, containing the following buttons:
- Show artists who have biographies
- Show artists who do not have biographies
- Artist/Group filter, containing the following buttons:
Note:
- All buttons can be toggled on and off.
- Enabling all buttons in one section gives the same result as if no buttons are selected.
The Artist view context menu
If you right click an album the common artist context menu will be shown.
This context menu contains a few functions specific to the Album view, described below:
- Select
- Select All
This command selects all artists
- Clear Selection
This command deselects all artists
- Invert Selection
This command inverts your selection
- Select Artists With Pictures
This command selects all artists that have a picture
- Select Artists Without Pictures
This command selects all artists that do not have a picture
- Select Artists Starting with
This command selects artits whose name starts with the entered expression
- Select Artists Containing
This command selects artists whose name contains the entered expression
- Artist view Tools
- Grouping
Enables you to control how information should be grouped and sorted in the Artist view.
- Thumbnail Size
Enables you to adjust the size of the each artist entry. Available sizes are 32*32 pixels, 64*64 pixels, 96*96 pixels and 128*128 pixels
- Mark as "Artist"
Mark the selected items as artists
- Mark as "Group"
Mark the selected items as a band/group
- Rename Artist
Change the name of the artist, affects both database data and tags
- At the bottom of the context menu
- Find Artist
Opens a dialog which enables you to search for a specific artist. It is possible to select the direction of the search (forwards/backwards) as well as where the search should start (from beginning or from the selected artist). This function can be accessed by pressing CTRL+F when the Artist view is active.
- Browse Selected Artists
When clicked, the contents of all selected (check marked) artists will be shown in the tracklist.
The Artist view toolbar
The Artist view toolbar is located just below the list of Artists, if you have selected to use sidebar toolbars (View > Toolbars > Show Sidebar Toolbars).
This toolbar contains the same commands as in the Artist views context menu.
