File Renaming and Moving

Postby HarryM » Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:49 pm

Hi Guys

I haven't really used this function properly before, I used it only to rename files and not move them as well. I realise how powerful this function is though and I would like to utilise it a lot more.

My directory structure is as follows...

<Database Name> - <Artists Initial Char> - <Artist> - <Album> - Filename

And would look like for example...

<MusicArchive> - <A> - <Amy Mann> - <Whatever> - Filename....

The template to acheive this path is really straightforward and works very well in every way except....I can't find any way to set up a folder with the Artist Initial Character (obviously in some cases this could be a number i.e 10,000 Maniacs)

There must be some way to do this but I can't figure it out, I also did a search of the forums and couldn't see anything resembling this either.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and best regards

Just add a field with Artist as the field and limit its length to 1 - this should do the trick. I file all my artists like this but actually use the 'Album Artist Sort Field' to derive my single character folder names :)

Hey Henc

Thank you for this, it's fairly obvious when it's pointed out but I don't think I would ever have figured out how to do it. I knew it must be possible somehow though. Incidentally, how do you use the album artist sort field to acheive the same thing?

Thanks again and best regards

I am using the Album Artist Sort Field instead of the Artist field, that's all - so an example folder structure is "H:\HMM7 Music\Lossless\B\Beatles, The\Beatles for Sale" :)
