Helium 7.1 first impressions - bugs

Postby Gendji » Sun Feb 21, 2010 1:28 pm

I went into Neil Armstrong mode today taking a giant leap and installed 7.1. :-)

The first impression is that it has really become a lot faster now. The cache system really benefits the working speed of Helium. The BASS player is at it's latest version and the additions to the Music Explorer are great. So the overall feeling is certainly a good one.

But as with every beta version i found a few bugs and/or changes in regard to Helium 7:

1. The Font size of all the menu's are small all of a sudden. I checked if the css file got changed but since it wasn't i am assuming it's an internal change. It used to be the same size as the font used for the Music Explorer or Track details but now it's almost half of the size. When using a screen resolution of 1680x1050 it becomes really (too) small. Maybe it can be changed somewhere but if so i haven't found it yet.

2. Switching from Track Details to Coverflow 1 or 2 times turns the Coverflow black (full width) and doesn't show any covers. The only way to see the covers in Coverflow again is to restart Helium 7.1.

3. The amount Helium 7.1 uses in regard to Helium 7 has almost doubled. But maybe that has to do with the cache system.

4. The Gapless Playback bug reported here - gapless-playback-t4677.html - which wasn't present in Helium 7 for me, happens now for me with Helium 7.1. Tested it with mp3 and Flac and it happens with both file types using the internal player. I didn't change anything in options.

The version i am using is Helium 7.1 8095.

Thanks for your feedback Gendji,

Glad to hear that you like the new version. :)

A few comments follows below:

1) I'm not fully sure what you refer to here, nothing should be changed with the fonts so I suggest that you contact our support for further help with this case (I think you need to send us a screenshot of how it used to look and what it looks like now). We also need to know which operating system that you run Helium Music Manager 7.1 on.

2) This will hopefully be fixed in the next release, if you report this via the integrated bug reporting tool we will be able to contact you back and send you a pre-release with this (and other known) correction.

3) The maximum amount of memory is in theory the exact same as in the prior version (actually it will consume less memory since some memory is optimized away and a lot of memory leaks have been corrected), but because of the new cache system the memory peak will remain higher.

4) This is something we will need to test and analyze further. No changes to the player has been performed except for that we are using the new BASS version. It might be something changed in the BASS core, but the analysing will have to answer that.

Please note that the optimal way (and also the recommended way, according to the releasenotes :) ) of reporting bugs is via the Internal bug reporter.
The main reasons for that is that nothing wll be forgotten that way (we do not constatntly check the forum for reports), we will be able to send you fix releases plus that you will be able to see the status of our reports.
The forum "works", but it will slow things down a bit.

Thanks again for your feedback!
Best regards,
