Web Interface - Sort Of?

Postby muzicman82 » Tue Mar 13, 2007 6:42 am

So, I had an idea today.

What if... a web application was made that allowed access to a Helium database, probably SQL...

... People could browser your database and see what music you have. Maybe stream tracks?

... And, users could create playlists with tracks in your library. They could save them as a playlist file, and it's saved for you also. So, your friends are making you playlists!

Other possibilities?

I suppose this could be done with PHP, some AJAX, and some MySQL...

Or.. a slicker way would be Adobe Flex... but probably more complicated.

I'm interested.. I may give it a shot for personal use soon.

I think I saw those back when they were being developed. I like them, although, I personally don't use the Biography or Ratings in any program.

The emphasis on the interface I'd like to make is playlist creation. The only thing I know of where users can create and share playlists is iTunes, which I don't use and can't stand. You can also only make iTunes playlists that are sharable with tracks you can download I think...

But, like I said... Adobe Flex / Flash could probably do some slick stuff with the interface.

Haha, i had the same idea. I actually filled an A4 with ideas for this. But mine was supposed to be integrated with uTorrent and a private music-tracker, so i could download music at home while i was somewhere else. The app was supposed to use Helium's SQL database so i could see what albums i got from the artist i'm currently browsing, and a small icon behind album title that shows if i got the album in my collection.

But couldn't get myself to it, but it's really easy PHP+MySQL, (atleast the "search Helium database" part).
