Backup & Restore
Introduction
The Backup function of Helium Music Manager gives you the ability to safely
backup your entire settings (including all templates) and the database
where all references to your music is stored. The Restore function takes
a backup file that the Backup function has created, and restores it.
How to backup your settings
- Click on File | Backup from the
main menu.
- Click the
Browse button
to set a destination folder for your backup files (a new folder will be
created that will contain your backup file).
- Click OK and Helium Music Manager
will save all personal files you have created (templates, settings and
the database) to a compressed zip file in a sub folder under the folder
you selected in Step 2.
- When the backup has been successfully, a message
will be displayed stating Backup created OK. It will
confirm the name and location of the backup file. Click OK.
Note:
- We strongly recommend that you backup your data frequently
in order to prevent the potential loss of your database and settings,
in the event of a computer crash or an unforeseen incident that corrupts
your data.
- Always backup your settings before installing a new
version of Helium Music Manager, in order to prevent the settings from
being overwritten by the installer.
- If you are working with a MS SQL Server database,
you may need to configure a "Native MS SQL Backup Folder". Please click this
link for more information.
How to Restore your settings
- Click on File | Restore from the
main menu.
- Click the
Browse button
to select the backup file (compressed zip file) in the folder where you
previously saved your backup.
- Click OK to restore your previously
backed up files.
Note:
- If your restore contains a MS SQL Server database,
you may need to configure a "Native MS SQL Backup Folder". Please click this
link for more information.
- After the restore is finished Helium Music Manager
informs you that "Helium Music Manager must now be closed to make
the new settings active". It also confirms that the restore log file
(helium-restore.txt) has been saved in your user data folder. Click OK
to close Helium Music Manager. When Helium Music Manager is next restarted,
the program will start; using the restored data.
- A backed up MS SQL database will be restored, but
not automatically activated. You will need to activate this database by
yourself from the Database
Management dialog.
