Introduction to the MP3 AnalyzerMP3 Analyzer

The MP3 Analyzer in Helium Music Manager is used for checking the quality of your MP3 files. It can then be used to repair broken MP3 files.

Using the MP3 Analyzer

Select the files that you would like to analyze from the track list and start the MP3 Analyzer using any of the methods below:
  • Click the Tools | Analyze MP3 Files menu.
  • Right click on the selected files and click the Tools | Analyze MP3 Files menu.
  • Click the button (if available) on the main toolbar.
The MP3 Analyzer will automatically scan all selected files on startup. When the analyze is done, the items in the file list to the left will have their background color set according to the calculated quality (Good, Rather Good, Medium or Bad).
 
Depending on the analyzed quality of the files there are several tasks to perform. Select the files you want to perform a task on and use one or more of the options below:
  • Click the Options button () to go to the Options for the MP3 Analyzer.
  • Click the Apply Quality Result to Tags button to apply the calculated quality to the selected file(s) tags.
  • Click the Remove Bad Leading Bytes button () to remove the erroneous leading bytes from the selected files.
  • Click the Fix Incorrect/Missing VBR Header button () to fix an incorrect or missing VBR header on the selected files.
  • Click the Remove APEv2 Tag button () to remove bad APEv2 tags from the selected files.
  • Under the button there are a few options available:

    Save all Reports
    lets you save individual reports for all files in the list.
    Save Report
    lets you save the report shown in the right pane to a file of you choice.
    Save bad files to Text File
    lets you save a simple report with all files that has a Poor quality.
  • Click the Copy Selected Files button () to copy the selected files to a folder of your choice.
  • Click the Move Selected Files button () to move the selected files to a folder of your choice.
  • Click the Remove Selected Files button () to remove the selected files.
  • Click the Play button () to play the selected file.
  • Click the Pause button () to pause a currently playing file.
  • Click the Stop button () to stop replaying.
Note:
  • If you select a file in the list you will see the details from the scan in the window to the right.
  • If the selected file has any error that can be fixed, a panel with Recommended Tasks will show in the detail window allowing removing of bad leading bytes, fixing of incorrect/missing VBR header or removing of bad APEv2 tags, depending on what problems the selected file has.
  • If a file has synch errors you will see this in the detail window as well. You can choose to play the song two seconds before the error occurs so you can hear for yourself how it sounds. Synch errors can usually not be fixed, so re-ripping tracks with synch errors is recommended.
  • The Bitrate Distribution tab will allow you to see details about which bitrates that are used for the selected file.
