Introduction to managing Genres

The Manage Genres dialog is a tool which allows you to easily categorize your Genres into Genre Categories and Genre Styles.

Using the Manage Genres dialog

Open the Manage Genres dialog by using any of the methods below:

• In the Music Library, right click a Genre, Genre Style or Genre Category and select Manage Genres.

• In the Music Information Browser, select the Manage Genres option from the Tools menu.

The dialog is divided into two lists. The left list contains a tree of Genre Categories (on the first level) and Genre Styles (on the second level, below Genre Categories) and the right list contains Genres in the selected Genre Category or Genre Style.

How to move Genres to a different Genre Style:

• Browse a Genre Category or Genre Style in the left list until one or more Genres are shown in the right list.

• Select one or more Genres that you want to move and do one of the following actions to move it to a different Genre Style:

  • Click and drag the selected Genres to the desired Genre Style in the left list.

  • Click the Move Genres to Genre Style button and select the Genre Category and Genre Style to move the selected Genres into. Click OK to perform the action.

How to move a Genre Style to a different Genre Category:

• Select a Genre Style in the left list and do one of the following actions to move it to a different Genre Category:

  • Click and drag the selected Genre Style to the desired Genre Category in the left list.

  • Click the Move Genre Style to Genre Category button and select the Genre Category to move the selected Genres into. Click OK to perform the action.

How to create a new Genre Category:

• Click the New button and select New Genre Category.

• Type a name for your Genre Category and click OK.

How to create a new Genre Style:

• Select the Genre Category that you want to create your new Genre Style in from the left list.

• Click the New button and select New Genre Style.

• Type a name for your Genre Style and click OK.

Note:

• The left list has a default item called [Uncategorized] that will display uncategorized Genres in the right list.
