Control which music that should be played

Introduction

The Active Playlist  is located below the Track List.

The Active Playlist lists all the tracks you have enqueued for replaying as well as highlighting the track that is currently being replayed (if any). You can show/hide the Active Playlist by clicking View | Active Playlist in the main menu. To quickly hide or show the Active Playlist you can click the quick collapse/expand panel located below the Active Playlist.

To not complicate the terminology more than is necessary, we can say that the Active Playlist is nothing more than a playlist.

Double click on one of the items in the list to start replaying that track.
The active track is indicated with an orange background:

To re-arrange the position of one or more tracks, you can either use the Move Up/Move Down commands available from the context menu or you can drag 'n' move the selected tracks to their new position, just as in the Track List.

The contents in the Active Playlist are stored between sessions in Helium Music Manager, meaning that the next time you start Helium Music Manager, the previous contents will be remembered.

Adding tracks to the Active Playlist

There are many possible methods available to add files to the Active Playlist. A few of them are described below:

  • Adding selected tracks from the Track List to the Active Playlist can be performed by selecting one or more files in the Track List and then clicking either Playlists | Enqueue To Active Playlist from the main menu and choosing the appropriate command or by selecting the appropriate command from the Track List's context menu (Enqueue To Active Playlist).

  • Adding selected tracks from the Track List using Drag 'n' Drop can be performed by selecting one or more files in the Track List and then dragging them to the Active Playlist and dropping them at the position you would like to have them inserted.

  • Adding a complete album from the Album Browser. Simply select the album you would like to enqueue and drag it to the Active Playlist. Drop it to enqueue all files from that album.

  • Enqueuing files and/or folders from the Active Playlist. Select the appropriate command from the Active Playlist's Enqueue context menu.

  • Adding files and/or folders from Windows Explorer. Simply drag a few files or folders from Windows Explorer and drop them onto the Active Playlist to add the contents. Folders will be scanned recursively.

  • Enqueuing a Helium Music Manager Playlist. Change to the Playlist Browser and select the Playlist you would like to enqueue. Drag and drop it to the Active Playlist.

  • Enqueuing a Smart Playlist. Use the same method described above, but drop a Smart Playlist instead of a Helium Music Manager playlist.

  • Enqueuing a webradio URL. Right click in the Active Playlist and select Enqueue | Enqueue URL... Enter the URL and optionally a title for the webradio station in the dialog that appears. You can also drag and drop a stored webradio channel from the Playlist Browser to the Active Playlist.

  • Enqueuing tracks automatically can be done by using the Auto Enqueue feature.

This describes a few of the more common methods which are available to add files to the Active Playlist.

Useful commands

  • You can start several of Helium Music Manager's tools directly from the Active Playlist. Simply select the files you would like to use the specific tool with directly from the Active Playlist and select Tools and the appropriate tool from the context menu.

  • Enqueue totally random tracks from your collection by selecting Enqueue | Enqueue Random Tracks from the context menu. This is a very useful command which can enqueue a specific number of filtered files, selected at random, from your database.

  • Randomize the contents in your Active Playlist by selecting Randomize from the context menu.

  • Control what Helium Music Manager should do after the last track in the Active Playlist has been played by selecting Tools | Configure Auto Enqueue... from the main menu. Click here to read more about the Auto Enqueue feature.
