Working with the Music Library

Introduction

The Music Library is a very powerful view available in Helium Music Manager.  The Music Library enables you to work with several different groupings in order to manage your files in the best possible way. The following groupings are available in the Music Library:
  • My Folders (Folders as in the Windows Explorer)
  • My Computer (File Browser)
  • Artist
  • Album
  • Title
  • Genre
  • Rating
  • Release year
  • Recording Year
  • Mood
  • Situation
  • Release Type
  • File Date
  • Library/Volume
  • User Defined
  • Quality
  • Duplicates
  • Series
  • Untagged Items
  • Grouping
  • Unavailable Items
  • User Categories
  • Playing History
  • Publishers
  • Artist/Group Relations
Most of the groupings contain hierarchical sub-groupings which are dynamic and generated depending on the data in your Helium Music Manager database.
The most of the groupings can be customized. That means that you can define which childs that will appear under each grouping when you expand it.
This topic is described in further detail in the help file.

Tasks

Learning about some of the more unique groupings

Most of these groupings are pretty straightforward and don't need any further explanation. However, a few of them are really specific in their functionality and these are described below:

My Folders

This predefined grouping lets you browse all the tracks contained in your database as in the standard Windows explorer; with the exception that only the folders where you have files in will be shown. This is a very effective grouping to use when you are tagging albums/releases that you have in an existing folder structure on your disc.

My Computer (File Browser)

This predefined grouping is similar to the My Folders grouping, with the exception that it will allow you to browse all of you files and folders from all of your discs. This grouping does not use Helium Music Managers database, instead it is working directly with the file system. This grouping also allows you to view more than just your audio files. For example, it will be possible for you to view pictures, CUE files and anything you prefer. You can define which additional file types that should be shown from Options.

Playing History

Playing History is a powerful grouping which enables you to browse files (that have been added to the database) you have played using Helium Music Manager. Played items are be grouped in Year/Month/Day.

Duplicates

Select one of the sub items to view any duplicates matching the selected expression. This is a quick and effective way to locate duplicates stored in your Helium Music Manager database.

Untagged Items

This grouping lists any untagged items (items without information) in the following sub-groupings: Title, Artist, Album, Genre, Rating, Mood, Situation, Tempo, Release Type, Recording Year, Release Year and Quality.

Artist/Group Relations

The Artist/Group Relations grouping allows you to explore artists/groups and their related artists/groups.
Artist/Group relations are created in the Music Information Browser.
