Introduction to the Artist Browser

The Artist Browser is where you can browse your tracks categorized by artist while showing the artist picture as a thumbnail and useful information about each artist.

Using the Artist Browser

Show the Artist Browser using any of the methods below:

Click View | Views | Artists from the main menu.
Press F9 on your keyboard.
Click the Artists button on the shortcut bar in the Left Sidebar

To view all tracks from a specific artist, click on the thumbnail of the artist, and all tracks produced by that artist show in the Track List.

The Artist Filter

The artists in the Artist Browser can be filtered, allowing only artist that meet certain criteria to be shown. Click here to read about the Artist Filter.

Information for artist entries

Each entry in the artist browser shows information about the artist as follows:

Artist/Group Name
Shown first
Home Country
Shown second
Born/Formed Year
Only visible when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more
Died/Disbanded Year
Only visible when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more
Number of tracks
Only visible when using 96*96 pixels thumbnail size or more
Sort Order
Only visible when using 96*96 pixels thumbnail size
Artist Home Page
Only visible when using 128*128 pixels thumbnail size
Artist/Group Icon
A icon which will indicate if the artist is a artist or a group
Artist Rating
Shown as star icons with a numeric representation of 0.5 to 5 (including half stars). This rating is calculated from the rating of the tracks each artist has produced. Artist rating will only be shown when using 64*64 pixels thumbnail size or more.

The selection checkbox

To the left of each artist entry is a checkbox where you can manually select multiple artists. You can also use the Select menu on the Artist Browser toolbar or from the context menu to select multiple artists. The following tasks can be performed on multiple artists at once:

Remove pictures
Download artist information and pictures
Enqueue and Play entries from the selected artists

The filtering toolbar

Above the thumbnail view are some controls that handle filtering of artists.

The filters are divided into two sections:

Pictures filter, containing the following buttons:
- Show artists with pictures
- Show artists without pictures
Biography filter, containing the following buttons:
- Show artists which has biographies
- Show artists which has not biographies

Note:

All buttons can be toggled on and off.
Enabling all buttons in one section gives the same result as if no buttons are selected.

The Artist Browser toolbar

Below the thumbnail view is a toolbar with some useful controls.

Edit
Opens the Edit Artist Information tool
Thumbnail size menu:

The thumbnails in the Artist Browser can be shown in four different sizes. Depending on which size you choose, more or less artist information will be shown to the right of the artist picture.
- 32*32 pixels
- 64*64 pixels
- 96*96 pixels
- 128*128 pixels
Pictures menu:
- Download Artist Information
  Allows you to download artist information for the selected artist(s)
- Add/Update Picture
  Lets you manually browse for an artist picture to assign to the artist
- Edit Original Picture
  Will open the assigned picture (if any) in the default application for image editing.
- Reload Picture
  Will reload the thumbnail from the original picture. This option is useful if you have edited the artist picture and want to refresh the thumbnail to reflect the original picture.
- Remove Picture
  Will remove the thumbnail attached to the artist. This will not remove the original picture.
Enqueue and Play:

Enqueue and Play
Enqueue and play the tracks from the selected artist(s)
Enqueue Next
Enqueue the tracks from the selected artist(s) next in the Active Playlist.
Enqueue Last
Enqueue the tracks from the selected artist(s) last in the Active Playlist.

Edit Tags
Use the Tag Editor to tag the tracks from the selected artist
Edit Tags (Spreadsheet Mode)
Use the Tag Editor (Spreadsheet Mode) to tag the tracks from the selected artist
MP3 Analyzer
Analyze the tracks from the selected artist in the MP3 Analyzer

Browse menu:

Browse in Music Library:

Browse Artist In Music Library
Will browse the artist in the Music Library
Browse Album In Music Library
Will browse the album in the Music Library. Please note that this item is only available when a album entry is selected.

Browse Selected Artists
Will browse the selected artists and display the result in the tracklist.
Browse Album In Album Browser
Will browse the selected album in the Album Browser. Please note that this item is only available when a album entry is selected.
Browse In Music Information Browser:

Browse Artist In Music Information Browser
Will browse the Artist in the Music Information Browser
Browse Album In Music Information Browser
Will browse the Album in the Music Information Browser. Please note that this item is only available when a album entry is selected.

Search For Similar Artists
Will search for artists similar to the selected artist. The results are presented in the Search View.

Select menu:
- Select All
  Will select all albums
- Clear Selection
  Will clear the current selection
- Invert Selection
  Will invert the current selection
- Select Artists with Pictures
  Will select all artists with assigned pictures
- Select Artists without Pictures
  Will select all artists without an assigned picture
- Select Artists Starting with
  Will select all artists which have titles starting with a specified string value
- Select Artists Containing
  Will select all artists which have titles containing a specified string value

The Artist Browser context menu

If you right click an artist there is a menu with the same options as on the Artist Browser toolbar.
